Like any event it’s only as successful as the preparation & planning that goes in beforehand to make it so & we were very lucky to have had Amanda Leach in the role of Regatta Secretary to achieve this. There’s always glitches beyond our control & that’s when teamwork really shows through to plug the gaps. Our team did such a great job that these patches were more or less seamless to the visiting crews & supporters. Add to this absolutely perfect weather & what do you get?
The best Regatta of the Season
This year we were exceptionally lucky to have some great sponsors from within the club & the local community that enabled us to bring back our traditional Jazz Band entertainment to add that extra dimension to the proceedings. We’re extrenely grateful to our sponsors:
Main Regatta Sponsor:
Event Sponsors:
La Cloche at The Lion, Teddington
Sure Clean of Shepperton
Individual Race Sponsors:
Lesley Russell
Dave Wright
All of this preparation & support would of course be of little point without those prepared to go out on the water & compete. Thankfully our associated skiff clubs from further upstream all entered a healthy number of crews to add to our home team to produce a packed schedule of racing throughout the day. Events covered the usual Skiffing & Punting with a welcome addition of the 1829 Replica Oxford/Cambridge Gigs, hotly contested by 4 crews. With everyone giving their all, there can only be a few that walk away with a pot, or in our case a classy wine glass, to show for their efforts.
We ended the day with four wins in total, 3 in Skiffing & 1 in Punting, so many congratulations to:
Markus Widmer winning Gents Junior Singles in 3 min 5 sec by 2 lengths
Russell Guy, Josh Pitt, coxed Erin Guy winning Gents Novice Doubles in 2 min 45 sec by 2/3 length. Interestingly this equaled the fastest recorded time for the day, shared by the Gents Novice Restricted Doubles crew from Wargrave & the Gents Junior Doubles crew from DSPC.
Roger Haines, Amanda Leach, coxed Emily Tallantire winning Mixed Vets Handicap Doubles in 3 min 3 sec by 1 length
Jane Porter winning Ladies Novice Open 2ft in a Punt over
