Great to see so many members & guests enjoying last night’s Scratch Racing at the Club. The weather was perfect, a little windy,  which of course meant that we were having to avoid the sailing at either end of our course but we managed not to hit anything. Even if the draw wasn’t executed exactly to plan, crews mixed & match with old & new members to produce a great variety of crews across the age ranges. Some were even surprised at which events they were entered in but it’s amazing how things can turn out, even with the dubious handicapping!

On his debut, of even stepping into a single, Kevin Elmore showed exceptional promise by winning the Adults Singles event. Perhaps the motivation came from having seen his son compete so well in the junior singles. You can’t hide your skills any longer Kevin, we’ll be after you racing in regattas very soon.

Prior to this we had a head-to-head in the Junior Singles where Jenna Palmer showed how far she had come in her singles training. Always a smile on her face, she competed very well both in this event & subsequently in her mixed doubles crew.

Finally at the end of the evening our doubles racing brought the proceedings to a conclusion after 16 crews had taken part in the heats. For some this was their first taste of competing & for others a chance to pass on their experience to the newcomers. Many thanks to all of those that took  part & made this a fun evening. Our final victors of the day were Ricardo Davies, Julia Solovieva, coxed by Nicky Painter.

Luckily Jane & Sally had also catered sufficiently to feed everyone after the racing, so many thanks to them also.
